Background
Your eyes did not deceive you as the title to this review is liberals with guns. Although this may sound strange to many people, especially those that consider all liberals anti-gun, the point remains that all gun owners are not hard-core right wing maniacs and all liberals or not tree hugging gun destroying kill them with kindness sympathizers. The question that was previously asked about liberals being 100% anti-gun can be resoundingly answered with a simple, no.
There are numerous American gun owners who support the constitutionally granted right of all US citizens to maintain and bear arms. This is in accordance with the rights as a United States citizen and stands right in the face of NRA propagandists that state all liberals are anti-gun and want to take away this unalienable right to carry a weapon or at the very least keep one in the home for self protection. The second amendment is designed to ensure the right to bear arms for any law-abiding taxpaying citizen of these United States of America. What has happened over the centuries after the Revolutionary War was that the public has placed its trust with the Federal Government to safeguard that right and be caretakers of a greater responsibility. Unfortunately as times have shown the Federal Government has not lived up to its bargain and has either outlawed or prohibited in some form or fashion guns in the home even for law-abiding taxpaying citizens.
A more recent development and one that needs to be discussed right here and now is that the threat to our own civil liberties does not come from the usual , the right. This new threat is from the new conservative or neoconservative party and the pro-Confederate Southern right. As we all are Americans and the Civil War was fought in the mid-19th century and won by the North or Union forces under Abraham Lincoln the right to bear arms has been around and enforced by the Federal Government ever since the country was reunited. What is nonsensical at best is that the pro-Confederate Southern right under the auspices of religious fanaticism has taken up the charge and is leading a march against the very rights that we deemed so precious our right to bear arms.
The Christian right wants to further establish the Christian theocracy and one that goes to the extreme of imprisoning gays and denying women the right to vote as well as executing children for the simple developmental path that most children, as well as all of us adults went through, called simple disobedience. One can see these tyrannical injustices at; www.religioustolerance.org\reconstruct.htm for more information and to open your eyes even a little bit. When speaking about George W. Bush one must understand that his unilateral foreign-policy only fanned the flames of terrorism and makes the United States and her citizens targets of unseen and undeserved attacks. When George Bush and his cabinet declared war on terror this is not to be an open-ended statement and has laid the groundwork for spying on the very citizens that elected him into office, the good people of the United States.
As we will be using the terms liberal and socialist and progressive and left-wing almost without notice it must be clarified that there are many different labels and names that refer to the same belief, freedom. The left wing and the right-wing need to understand that the hard-line leaders of the United States government wants to strip away the rights of the citizens and not touch the U.S. Constitution in any way shape or form. Which one do you consider yourself a part of? Or do you consider yourself a combination of both left and right or do you have a neutral opinion and only vote for the king who is in power? To have an opinion does not mean that you are forced to join either the left of the right sides. When it comes to standing up for Constitutional rights it is the Second Amendment that is being threatened. As an American citizen you have a responsibility and it should be seen as an honor to fight for your rights that the founding fathers gave to you in this glorious country of ours.
Liberals prefer a more general and gentler hands-off capitalism that still brings home the bacon but does not involve any governmental agencies. There is the Marxist from Karl Marx as well as other Eastern European anti-governmental forces that want to abolish capitalism and smash it to pieces. The Liberals favor a foreign-policy that is mandated and regulated through a controlling vote via the United Nations. On the far side there are the socialists that want the United States out of both the international affairs of other countries and the hedonistic-United Nations. It is interesting to see a common ground that both the leftist and the Liberals can agree on and that one is the Second Amendment. By stripping United States citizens and take away guns from law-abiding citizens the criminals and the Federal Government for that matter will claim open season on the very citizens that are paying for their services through taxes. When it comes to the point were American citizens cannot keep guns and protect their homes and family and property from the onslaught of drug dealers and governmental activities and even the Federal Government then the country starts to unravel at its very foundation.
The Second Amendment guarantees us or should have guaranteed us the right to bear arms in our home and protect our family and property. Taken away the right from citizens to bear arms will do nothing but be a mere lighting of a fire that is already raging against the Federal Government and international foreign-policy. The adage of do not fix something that is not broken should be taken by lawmakers and not only the local and state government branches but the federal level as well. Even as high as the Presidential Executive level and taken to heart immediately for the rescuing of not only a country but a way of life. The time has come to hold these lawmakers accountable and make them see past their own golden parachutes and federally funded everything plans and looks into the hearts and minds of individual US citizens. The left and the right can agree on one thing. Disarming American citizens is not the answer.
A funny thing happened to me on the way to the bank yesterday I realized that the rich can get away with murder while the middle class which is now nonexistent in America and the lower class pays for every evil that is created immediately and without mercy. The rich have always been able to exclude themselves from the letter of the law and rich people have been able to fund businesses and buy street drugs regardless of the letter of the law since they are rich. Please do not be blindsided by this and think that only Republicans are rich as this is no longer the case as even Democrats have money and fall under the auspices of blind justice as well. Once a person comes into contact with copious amounts of money two things happen. The lifestyle changes which can be good and bad and the above the law mentality starts to formulate within that person’s home and head.
The rich do not care if the Second Amendment is taken away and every gun stripped out of every home in the United States as they will always have access to guns and can even hire a private small army and station them around the perimeter of the house and residence and call it the protection of the American Dream. Government needs to continue to act only to serve the interests of the taxpaying citizens regardless of social class and access to wealth. Government now only seems to serve the rich and famous and powerful and the fight is on to limit or devoid the government from taking everything over. Is it time to board up the windows and grab pitchforks and set cars on fire? Maybe. Until that time we will have to rely on the leaders of the left to stand up and count in point and call out injustices as they see them and to the support of the Leftist Liberal Party of the United States.
Randy Weaver is a case in point that deserves some content and copy. The Justice Department went after him and should be seen as a precursor to attacking the Green Party as well. While we may all look at Randy Weaver as a social pariah it does not mean that the Justice Department has the right to go after an American citizen with such hate and military force. By peeling off the label of Randy Weaver and sticking in the Green Party or maybe the Socialist Party or any other person or group that is simply exercising its fundamental and through blood and battles and wars and votes its First Amendment rights we can easily see that it can happen to all of us. When government is given too much power or becomes too involved with the personal choices that were supposed to be hands-off from any legislation unless it was toward the overall improvement through an amendment for the United States and her citizens than mailing up the shutters and grabbed the pitchfork does not seem like a very bad idea at all!
On this site you can locate links to the various gun manufacturers and also pages in which you can find information on concealed gun carrying permits. There is also information and news sources and organizations that support the fundamentalist view of progression and equality in the United States. Please do e-mail me if you would like to offer your suggestions or praise or criticism regarding the creation and the constant updating of information of this site. As customary I do especially desire to hear from fellow liberals who have turned away from the anti-gun slogans of the past and have joined the American Bandwagon with a positive gun rights position. Remember that it matters not that you ever want to see or touch a gun it matters that the right to have a gun in place 24/7, is preserved. Please take a look at some quotes that might cause you to feel alarmed about your constitutional rights.
“We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed to. Otherwise they will turn out to be outright traitors.” Ann Coulter.
“Words mean things.” Rush Limbaugh.
These conservatives possibly should be taken at their word by the left? An interesting fact about the past is that Eleanor Roosevelt carried a gun. The First Lady understood how vastly important the Second Amendment is to the overall freedom that we enjoy as Americans and that freedom can only be found here in the United States of America. As liberals we need to reclaim gun rights as very American and earned through blood sweat and tears and not allow it to be taken away by single-minded individuals in power.
Please take a look at this great essay by Dave Koppel who was a contributor to the Second Amendment project and can be found at (www.DaveKopell.com/2D a minute.htm). Used with permission).
“Her Own Bodyguard”
Gun Packing First Lady
By Dave Koppel, Paul Gallant and JoAnn Hyson, Independence Institute January 24, 2002
The most famous spokesperson for civil rights was Eleanor Roosevelt. When thinking about the left and the right we need to realize that people in power will be armed with the strongest swords and words. This is what made Eleanor Roosevelt, the First Lady such a gem and natural fit for the voice of America during one of our most confusing eclectic times in our nation’s history. It was Mrs. Roosevelt who said “We can’t afford to have two kinds of citizens; we must have equal citizenship for anybody in our country.”
Eleanor Roosevelt was a well-known speaker but she did much more than talk she walked the walk. In 19 5874 she started creating a plan an idea to go down to this volunteer state of Tennessee to speak at a civil rights workshop at the Highlander folk school. The KKK found out about her plans and the day before her trip the FBI contacted the first lady. “Patient we can guarantee your safety,” Titian the FBI instructor. “The KKK as that abounds on your head and the value of $25,000 so we can’t protect you and you cannot go.” As a strong woman and the first lady and wife of one of the most beloved presidents of our generation and beyond LR Roosevelt did not take kindly to being threatened or pushed around and especially did not appreciate the KKK’s threats. The words that the first lady spoke sent chills down the FBI directors had office back and reverberate throughout the White House walls even until this day, “I didn’t ask for your protection I have a commitment I’m going.”
As planned Eleanor Roosevelt flew down to the National Airport where she was joined by a friend another elderly white woman aged 71. Both the First Lady and her unidentified friend got into a vehicle and laid a loaded pistol on the very front seat where they were driving and drove into the night unaltered and unafraid of the KKK’s threats. There was no stream of Secret Service vehicles and no police escort just two little old ladies with their protection of the Second Amendment sitting right there on that front seat. Upon reaching the tiny labor school in Tennessee the women conducted a workshop on how to break the law and how to conduct nonviolent civil disobedience. They drove to the heart of Klan territory to teach people on the instruction on how to fight for their very own lives and freedom.
If she were still alive today and if Rosie O’Donnell’s dreams did come true that gray-haired grandmother today would have been placed in jail and incarcerated. To fan the fires of the liberal movement one only has to recall the ignorant proclamation by the heavyset always in trouble Rosie O’Donnell when she stated so ineloquently, “I don’t care if you think it’s your right… You are not allowed to own a gun, and if you do own a gun, I think you should go to prison.” Rosie O. Donnell. Hillary Clinton would lecture the old woman about how citizens should only own guns for protection and other right-wingers would say now go back to the kitchen of the White House and make some biscuits. We need Eleanor Roosevelt to come back and straighten out the gun nuts and we need a President that will stand up for the individual rights and freedoms of American citizens especially some as important as the Second Amendment and gun availability. If you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns.
Teddy Roosevelt was an avid hunter and therefore a very strong consultant to conservation laws. Teddy Roosevelt owned and used a small cache of firearms but would always revert back to his trusted semi-automatic rifles. While taken up residence in the Badlands and North Dakota Theodore Roosevelt and his companions utilized their semi-automatic rifles for the daring recapture of some men who had previously stolen a boat. This event was forever captured in a Frederic Remington painting. In 1901 President McKinley was assassinated by an anarchist and Theodore Roosevelt succeeded to the office of the President of the United States. The new President was justifiably concerned about his own personal security so he started packing heat and carrying a concealed handgun to be used as protection only.
T. Roosevelt visited Harvard University and proudly displayed his holster and concealed gun to the acting president W. Eliot. Ignoring the Massachusetts law restricting concealed handguns to police and other service personnel the president looked at the Harvard leader and congregation and gave a speech about the importance of the Second Amendment right.
If you want to dig deeper into the international art of Second Amendment rights and gun ownership for the citizens of a country you may have to look at the Republic of Switzerland in Europe. While many individuals think that the Swiss do not permit her citizens to carry a gun this is not the case. The Government of Switzerland provides for in their constitution and the right of every citizen of Switzerland to protect theirselves in whatever manner that is socially correct. The Swiss have enacted the Citizen Army regulation that requires every able bodied individual who can hold a firearm or some form of weapons for self-defense to take up arms and protect in case of an attack the entire country of Switzerland. This is only made possible by allowing the citizens to bear arms in their homes. Are we not at least as free and open a society as the Swiss? That remains to be seen.
